BC Greens: Deferral extension welcome news

For Immediate Release
January 29, 2025

VICTORIA, B.C. – In response to the Province extending the Fairy Creek old-growth deferral, Rob Botterell, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands has issued the following statement:

“As long-term forest planning work is being done with First Nations, temporary old-growth deferrals are a key tool in the fight to protect BC’s globally rare old-growth forests. I commend the NDP’s announcement of the Fairy Creek deferral extension and hope to see more good news.

“We look forward to working with the BC NDP under the Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord (CARGA) in partnership with Pacheedaht and Ditidaht Nations to achieve permanent protection of the Fairy Creek Watershed as well as permanent protections of other at-risk old-growth forests and the expedited implementation of the Old Growth Strategic Review’s 14 recommendations.”
