BC Greens raise concerns over alleged fraud linked to Quest University collapse
VICTORIA, B.C. – Statement from Jeremy Valeriote, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky on the alleged fraud linked to the Quest University collapse:
“Yesterday in Question Period, I raised serious concerns about allegations surrounding the collapse of Quest University and the alleged web of fraudulent activity connected to it. The Attorney General said she would look into the issue.
The Canada Revenue Agency investigated alleged fraudulent charitable donations linked to entities associated with Quest’s donations, and it revoked the charitable status of several organizations involved.
Quest University was a private institution, but given the District of Squamish’s financial support and the Province’s subsequent purchase of the campus—a transaction in which one of the alleged fraudsters may have been involved—the public deserves reassurance that individuals connected to these allegations did not benefit from public funds.
I asked the Attorney General whether the government is aware of the allegations and if an investigation will be undertaken to determine the involvement of individuals connected to these transactions.
This issue is no longer just a private matter. It is a matter of public accountability.”
