VICTORIA, B.C. – Adam Olsen, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands has issued the following statement in response to government’s announcement of $10M in funding for the Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET):

“Rather than invest in permanent stable funding this BC NDP government has chosen to kick the can down the road and it will only be a matter of time before ICET is at risk of closing once more. It’s clear that Vancouver Island and coastal communities are not a priority for Premier Eby, with billions of dollars of surplus he had the opportunity to ensure local economic development priorities could be funded in perpetuity.

“For the last several months I’ve been advocating for the proposal that was submitted to the government by ICET last September to recapitalize the fund. I will be introducing a Private Member’s Bill later this afternoon to address this.”
