MLA Rob Botterell statement on expanded Peninsula Clinic Hours and SPOT Closure
SIDNEY, B.C. – “On February 17, 2026, Vancouver Island Health (VIHA) announced expanded hours at Island Health’s Peninsula Primary Care Access Clinic (formerly the Peninsula After Hours Primary Care Clinic). The clinic is located at the Peninsula Health Unit, 2170 Mt. Newton Cross Rd., Saanichton, adjacent to Saanich Peninsula Hospital.”
“I want to thank VIHA and the Ministry of Health for acknowledging the needs of the thousands of constituents in Saanich North and the Islands who do not currently have access to a family doctor. By extending the hours of operation at the clinic and renaming the facility, constituents can now access non-emergency primary care Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.”
“I also urge VIHA and the Ministry of Health to assure the community that any patients affected by the March 31, 2026, closure of the Saanich Peninsula Outreach Team (SPOT) at the Peninsula Health Unit will not be abandoned. Many of these patients have serious health issues, and I request confirmation from VIHA and the Minister of Health that all SPOT patients continue to have access to health care services appropriate to their individual needs after March 31, 2026.”
“While the expansion of service hours and renaming of the Peninsula Primary Care Access Clinic does not provide a family doctor to every person who needs one, it is a positive step in supporting people while they wait for permanent primary care in the constituency.”
